Exploring AI and Data Usage in Schools in Pescara and Rome

On January 21st and 22nd, 2025, Belén Donate-Beby, a member of the SPADATAS project team, visited educational institutions in Pescara and Rome, engaging with teachers, students, and administrators to assess the current level of AI and data usage in schools. Her visits included two primary schools and one high school, providing a broad perspective on how digital tools and data-driven technologies are shaping learning experiences across different age groups.

During her interactions, she explored how educators integrate AI-based tools into their teaching methodologies, how schools approach data collection and usage, and the challenges they face in balancing technological innovation with ethical considerations such as privacy, security, and digital literacy. These insights will contribute to the SPADATAS project’s ongoing efforts to develop resources that support schools in leveraging AI responsibly and effectively.

A key focus of her visit was also to introduce the upcoming Good Practices Handbook, a comprehensive guide aimed at helping teachers navigate the complexities of AI and data in education. This handbook, set to be launched in March 2025, will provide practical strategies, case studies, and ethical guidelines to empower educators in making informed decisions about AI-driven teaching and assessment. By equipping teachers with clear guidance, the handbook will support schools in fostering a data-aware, inclusive, and secure learning environment.
