n today’s digital world, knowing how to keep information safe is important for everyone, including young students. The 3rd grade students of First Elementary School Čakovec recently had the chance to learn about encryption, a key part of digital security, during an exciting workshop at the start of the school year.
Led by their teacher, Ivana Vadlja, the students first explored symbols in everyday life and in informatics. They then learned how to encrypt messages and why it’s important to do so. The students practiced writing secret messages to each other using different ciphers introduced in the workshop.
The activity was both fun and educational, helping students understand the value of privacy and security in communication. Through hands-on learning, they discovered how encryption helps keep information private, preventing it from being accessed by others.
By experimenting with different ciphers, the students also improved their problem-solving skills and creativity, gaining practical knowledge in an area that is becoming increasingly important in today’s world. This workshop gave them a strong foundation in cryptography, which they can continue to build on as they learn more about technology.
