First Graders Learn About Online Safety

As part of the SPADATAS project, first-grade students from the First Primary School of Čakovec participated in a series of interactive workshops aimed at introducing them to the fundamentals of online safety. Under the guidance of their teacher, Ivana Vadlja, they explored key concepts related to safe internet use, including recognizing trustworthy and untrustworthy online interactions, protecting personal information, and understanding the importance of responsible digital behavior.

The workshops were designed to engage young learners through hands-on activities, making complex topics more accessible and relevant to their everyday experiences. Through problem-solving exercises, puzzles, and worksheets, students identified potential online risks and learned how to respond appropriately. Real-life scenarios helped them recognize situations where caution is needed, such as encountering unknown messages, sharing personal details, or accessing unfamiliar websites.

A central focus of the workshops was encouraging students to communicate openly with parents, teachers, or other trusted adults whenever they feel unsure or uneasy about something online. Discussions highlighted the importance of asking for help and making informed decisions, reinforcing the idea that internet safety is a shared responsibility.

By introducing these topics at an early stage, the workshops provided students with a solid foundation for developing safe online habits. They not only learned practical strategies for protecting themselves but also became more aware of the digital environment in which they interact. The engaging and interactive nature of the sessions ensured that students absorbed essential lessons in a way that was both enjoyable and meaningful.
